Before You Play Hockey,
You Must Learn to Skate!

Before learning the basic FUNdamentals of hockey, it’s important for every skater to learn the basic fundamentals of skating. For those of you brand new to the ice, a Learn to Skate class is a necessary step in the progression into our Bruins FUNdamentals program. Classes are available at the tot (3-6 yrs) and youth (7-12 yrs) age levels. For full schedule, program information and registration, please see our Learn to Skate page.

Skaters should be able to fully function by themselves on the ice in hockey skates before getting in to FUNdamentals. Students should be able to fall down and get up on their own, push off with both feet, take a full stride and have some stopping and backward skating ability. If you’re not sure if your child is ready for Bruins FUNdamentals, be sure to talk to your Learn-to-Skate instructor, your local FUNdamentals coach or call the FMC Ice Sports hockey department at 888-74-SKATE
