The mission of FMC Ice Hockey is to increase participation in the sport of ice hockey by focusing our efforts on entry level, developmental and recreational hockey programs that are high quality and affordable with a reasonable time commitment.
We have several programs that can
benefit young and old, beginner and advanced and everything in between including
leagues, tournaments and clinics.
FMC Ice Sports is proud to offer hockey programming for all ages and abilities. We believe in providing structured classes that promote
education, friendships and a love of hockey. It is very important that all hockey players have a
basic knowledge and understanding of ice skating. Beginner hockey players are required to participate in and pass a Learn to Skate course and are suggested to enroll in Pre-Hockey before enrolling in Bruins FUNdamentals Beginner Hockey School.
About Learn to Skate
Welcome to the first step of the FMC Ice Sports group program progression. Each
Learn to Skate level is designed to teach a specific set of skills geared toward basic
movement, coordination and balance on the ice. It is important that the level
progression is followed and for skaters to demonstrate skills efficiently to staff
before advancing. Instructors will evaluate students and give progress reports to
skaters at the end of each season.
For skaters who have mastered the elements in Learn to Skate Tot 3 or Youth 2, Pre Hockey teaches skaters the proper
way to put equipment on and then transitions newly learned skating skills to wearing full equipment
and hockey skates. Aimed at providing a seamless transition, this program is designed to prepare
skaters adequately for the skills and drills taught in the FMC Ice Sports Bruins FUNdamentals program or other learn to play programs offered by many youth
hockey organizations.
Participants are required to have the following items:
Single blade hockey skates
HECC approved helmet
HECC approved full facemask
Shin pads and hockey socks
Elbow and shoulder pads
Hockey gloves
Hockey pants
Hockey sticks and pucks will be introduced in Bruins FUNdamentals, Step 2: Skill Building, and will not be utilized in this program.
For skaters who have mastered the elements in Tot 3 or
Youth 2, Pre Skating introduces balance, coordination and
mobility and helps to build confidence in skaters as they
progress through each level. Pre Skating prepares you for
the FMC Ice Skating Essentials program offered in Step 3:
Skill Building Programs, which lays down a solid
foundation of ice skating skills.
For Tot skaters who have mastered the skills in Tot 3
For Youth skaters who have mastered the skills in Youth 2
The Bruins Fundamentals program was initiated by FMC Ice Sports and the Boston
Bruins as a way to introduce beginner hockey players to the sport and help them prepare
for entry into youth and organized hockey programs. The program’s goal is to
teach the fundamentals of ice hockey through various drills, personalized
instruction, and game simulation, while ensuring that each and every skater is
having as much fun as possible!
